Sands memory boxThank you so very much to all our wonderful parents who helped to fundraise for the bereavement room on Labour ward at Milton Keynes Hospital, the room is now complete and being used. All of your efforts are very much appreciated, Jane, Pip and Christelle.


Butterfly bereavement Suit Milton Keynes HospitalOn behalf of the maternity team at MK Hospital we would like to send our sincere and grateful thanks to our local SANDS group for fundraising so effectively and being so generous with their contributions in the refurbishment of the Butterfly suite on labour ward. I am sure we all know how important the environment is to the service we give our families. Every donation be it money or time (or cupcakes!) that went towards this new area is appreciated by our staff and I am sure will be by the parents who may sadly need to use it.

Rebecca Oliver Ran the woburn 10K (6 miles) in 56 minutes in memory of William Radice, she raised £60.

With the help of family and friends, Kirsty Flynn & Darren Penn raised and donated £725 in memory of their daughter Brooke Penn. The money was raised in lieu of flowers at Brooke's funeral.

Ruth Sherman had a candle party at home and raised £71 in memory of her daughter Jessica Lillie Grace Sherman.

Jenny and Dave porter gave £60 to mk sands for their granddaughter Freya (daughter of Carly and Duncan) who was stillborn in 2010. The money would have been for her christmas and birthday presents.

Jo Hurst raised £70 from giving up chocolate and wine for 3 months. Jo did this in memory of her daughter Ella who died on the 9th June 2008

Sarah Matt and Kate ElphickBrother and sisters Sarah, Matt and Kate Elphick joined forces to compete in the Mansfield Half Marathon in memory of friends Emma and Terry Charlton's daughter Ava Mae Charlton. Despite the hot conditions, the Elphicks managed to complete the hilly course and raised over £1,000 for Milton Keynes Sands.

In June 2010 for Sands awareness month we held a cake sale in the main reception of Milton keynes Hospital. We raised £236. A big thank you to everyone that baked cakes for us and many thanks to Megan for baking and helping to sell all day. We would also like to thank the hospital and Tracy Rea for allowing us to sell cakes within the hospital.

Emma and Terry Charlton donated over £600 to Milton Keynes Sands in memory of their daughter Ava Mae who died in September 2009.

Sharon Newton donated £1000 that she was awarded from a charity golf fund which was organised by Bovis Lend Lease. Sharon did this in memory of William Radice who is her nephew.

Megan and Eamon Baird lost their son Elliot in October 2008. Along with both their families they have raised over £2000 for Milton Keynes Sands. They have raised money through village fetes which they have organised themselves, cake sales and cake auctions.


A big thank you to Rob Pickering who ran the MK marathon for Milton Keynes sands and raised £450. Rob's wife Jennie is a midwife at Milton Keynes hospital.

Milton Keynes Neonatal Unit donated £44 from their collection tin.

To help with our start up costs Louise Abbott kindly raised £500 at Towester Races with a sweep stake. Louise is a Pre-natal screening midwife at Milton Keynes Hospital.

In July 2008 we held a sponsored walk at Willen Lake. Despite the pouring rain everyone turned out and walked the 5km around the lake. We raised £2700..... A fantastic start for Milton Keynes Sands.
